So it's happening. It took them 10 years, but they've finally done it. How do you guys feel? I feel like I'm rediscovering something really cool.
What will you guys do first? Play it normally? Kill zombies? Save survivors? Explore the differences between the PC and 360 versions?

Could this be the start of a brand new Fanmade version of the storyline? Perhaps.

Isn't this why they made Sandbox Mode for DR2:OTR? Why not just do that again? If people wanna play around without any timer, go play the mode where there is no timer. Don't alter the main story just because of that.
So what happens? Does the storyline and all the side quest just freeze until you complete them? Couldn't you just max out your level and then go do the first few missions? Kind of kills the challenge.

I pretty much agree with everything you said. Capcom shouldn't be afraid to make the game better by fixing the things that mainly critics gave them shit for. Especially the save slot problem. You shouldn't have to rely on having more hard drives or USB memory sticks to save your game. It should've been 3 slots at the very least that all shared space on whichever drive you wanted to save on.

* The page randomly refreshed the last time I tried to write this, so pardon me if I skim over any details or if my text gets weird.
Combo Weapons As for the combo weapons, I feel like they should've been limited to Chuck Greene. What is the point in building a character around the idea that he can make these badass weapons if every single other character after him has the exact same ability? In fact, THEY'RE ALL BETTER THAN HIM AT IT.
So what are we supposed to gather from this? That Chuck Greene is WORSE than everyone else at building weapons, despite that the fact that it's supposedly his speciality? It makes no sense and it has gone far enough as it is.
Horror VS Comedy Dead Rising 1 has tons of comedy elements, but they were subtle and charming in their own ways. Now let's fast forward to Dead Rising 3. Fart jokes. *sigh*
There's a difference between cracking a pun or throwing something funny out there to lighten the mood, but it just gets incredibly obnoxious when it's all crudely flung in your face for shock value. Just because a 13 year old might find it hilarious doesn't mean that your target demographic will. This is also why I can't take the franchise seriously anymore. It's just a series of cheap slapstick jokes that have been done to death combined with a weak storyline and unlikeable characters.
Why I liked Dead Rising 1 so much Dead Rising brought a lot of old ideas to the table, but built something interesting and unique on top of it all. Instead of just roaming around in a generic setting with nothing to do, Capcom decided to spice it up a bit.
You weren't just aimlessly killing zombies. You were exploring, gathering weapons, trying to level up and meet new survivors. It's a simple idea, but it was executed so well.
Now let's take a comparison at the original idea and what we've got now, shall we? When Dead Rising was in its early stages of development Capcom had plans to make it mainly revolve around your interactions with your fellow survivors. Would you abandon this survivor in need of help in order to save yourself? Or would you stop and help them, putting your own life at risk and giving them the chance to stab you in the back? It was heavily focused on your choices and the risks involved. This isn't what the end product was like, but it sure as hell sounded cool.
Now let's have a look at Dead Rising 3. Special infected (which we have seen hundreds of times already in other games), slapstick humor, silly combo weapons, Nick being able to build a bulldozer at his whim, unlikeable characters with zero to little depth, and a stale storyline that had me yawning endlessly during the last quarter of the game.
Am I the only one seeing a steady decline in quality? The further the series goes from the original format, the worse it gets. This is why I'm hesitant to even try Dead Rising 4. I absolutely adore the first game. And I do like the second one (although it certainly didn't match up to the first one). But everything after those two games has been a huge letdown. I don't want to throw money at something, knowing damn well that it could very well disappoint me.
Conclusion This is why I don't consider Dead Rising 3 (or any other game after the second one) to be canon. First off, it makes no sense when you start disecting the storyline. Second of all, the premise becomes to ludacris and forgettable that it just hurts the first game. Bring back the people who were in charge of the first game and you have my interest. If not, then I'll spend my time and money elsewhere.

I just wish they would get rid of combo weapons already. Wasn't the whole point of them to give Chuck Greene a unique and likeable personality?
Because of how common they are, Chuck has now been reduced to a boring and stale character with nothing going for him. He's just whiny and morose all the time. A real buzzkill with zero unique character traits.
Why was he even in Dead Rising 3? He literally added nothing to it. It was just a cameo to make DR2 fans cream their pants. And even as someone who enjoyed Dead Rising 2, I actually hoped that he wouldn't make an appearance. When he showed up I kept telling myself "This is non-canon. This is a parody. This game is just a joke."
I don't know anymore. I just wish they would go back to their horror roots. But that doesn't appear to be the case. The more lucrative route is clearly making yet another Saints Row-ish zombie game with fart jokes and combo weapons. Yay.

Yeah. For whatever reason, Capcom wanted to turn it into DLC. Perhaps they ran out of achievements to grant the player clothing with, so they just turned them into downloadable extras? It's also possible that those were variants of clothings that just didn't get used. If my memory serves me right, one of the suits has a lack of tie, which is the only suit to not feature a tie. So it's not just a plain retexture, but also a different model (for whatever reason).
I'm not saying it's beta related, it could just be shit that Capcom deemed not good enough to feature as actual freeroam clothing. Eventually they said "Hey, let's just have people download some free DLC. They'll think we're giving them new content, but what we're really doing is handing them the leftovers that nobody wanted."

Imagine what a really good survivor AI would've done to this game.
* If a survivor is unarmed, they'll look for any nearby meele weapons or firearms to arm themselves with. * Good path finding. * Survivors will help to carry injured survivors (like Burt carrying Leah on day 1). * Survivors will run back to help surrounded or grabbed survivors. * The ability to individually instruct each survivor's behavior. For example: Telling Survivor A to stay put, while Survivor B follows you.
Shit like this would've made it so much for fun to rescue people.

That doesn't really excuse it though. If they wanted to implement a feature such as survivors in the game, then they should've put more time and effort into it. There are over 50 survivors in the game. And the achievements and PP Points constantly encourage you to escort them.
I could understand if survivors were just mere backdrop things to make the environment feel more alive. But when they're a big focus point in the game, I can't help but to feel like Capcom should've given more of a fuck about it. Just my two cents on this situation.

I released a couple of mods, but they were shit so I gave up. Like most other people who mod a game, I eventually started working on other projects that suited me more.
But, hey. If you want to lead the way and make a name for yourself in our small little community as a modder, then go right ahead. You have our support.

SWEGTA Presents... IntroductionI don't see many new mods for Dead Rising 2: OTR, so why not release one of my own? This mod not only alters the running/walking animations that Frank uses to the ones that Chuck uses, but it also grants you the ability to sprint. Simply unequip whatever weapon you're carrying and run like you normally would. Frank will now sprint. - This is a unused beta feature that I found last night. Apparently Chuck was supposed to have his own as well. The sprinting itself will allow you to easily dash zombies as they try to grab you. It's also pretty nifty for escaping any hostile survivors (or psychopaths) who have got you cornered. --> Download <--

Just gave it a go. Nice job, man. It could use a bit of tweaking, but this is way more compact and easy-to-use in comparison to just using the gibbtools. Definitely going to be using this a lot in the future.

I know this is kind of a hindsight thing to say, but wouldn't it be a good idea to have backups uploaded somewhere that everyone can download at any given time? I actually have a few backed up original files (uploaded by other users) on my own Bully modding website, just in case this happens. Having the same thing here would be a great idea. And yes, I know that it's easier said than done. But sadly, due to my extreme disappointment in Dead Rising 3 I uninstalled the game and removed it completely, so there is no way for me to do this.
What I recommend is that someone that has access to these original (and unmodified) files makes a thread and links them there for anyone to download. The only problem might be that it counts as piracy (sort of?), then again... It wouldn't be the first time someone has uploaded original files here.

IIRC, there was some talk way back about Capcom possibly considering making Dead Rising 3 a more "Mod Friendly" game. They mentioned that they're fine with people modding the game and that they pretty much encourage it, since it helps keep the fanbase alive. Problem is, they never did anything with it. All they said was basically that "You could turn the frame limitter off, but the game is poorly optimized for it. And we're not going to patch it."
So as far as Dead Rising 3 modding capability is concerned, it's possible but difficult considering the lack of tools that Capcom could've provided us with. All they said was "We'll allow it" and left us to scrambling around with the files.
Personally, I'd like to see some kind of Development Kit released to the general public. Sort of like Valve did with the source engine. I know that Dead Rising's engine and that of Source are two very disparate things, but you get my point.
