Wasn't there already a bit learned of the model format since the first Dead Rising 2?
Bit late.

I guess but atleast now its documented, if you read the information put up by the last guy he just guesses all the mesh info and has the user specify the mesh pairs. my converter opens the big file and loads any mesh out of it based on the info posted above. guess you guys will be fine with your old tools then. not like anyones interested in modding here (obviously) I never told you to give up. I wasn't completely sure if you were re-treading old ground, I hadn't read any of the old information either, my bad if I sounded that way.

It's good to see that there's some work on how the model format for this game. Shame there isn't alot to go at the moment with all the unknown data you're getting. Though is this for character models only or every type model in the game like items?

Wow, long time no talk dude Been years since I've seen a post from you on a community I visit. I really hope you can some-time get back to this and perhaps make some kind of a tool.. it'd be really nice if we had a model converting tool for DR2..

Yeah, me too. By simply moving verticies we could potentially make Frank into the DR1 version by slimming him down.... plus other things I can think of.... Hopefully I will get my PC version soon so I can start playing/modding as well..... I still haven't played the game, and apparently the PC-DVD is "being released on October 25, 2011" (according to Amazon, hopefully that applies to DigialRiver too.. apparently they have a few more bugs to iron out of the first batch that went out to buyers).

yea, he's already done more for DR2 modding than most on this forum. Seems a little hasty in your comment madda, seeing as how he released the tools BEFORE you made that comment about him never releasing his tools. Also keep in mind this is a free forum, even if he doesn't release his tools to the public then that is his choice.
not to mention Mariokart uploading to a public skydrive kinda contradicts all this "no sharing" thing

No need to be sorry about no major break throughs. The vertex injection tool was major enough. Heh.
Textures CAN already be edited, but it's not necessarily a simple task. It involves using a QuickBMS script to convert the TEX files directly to a bunch of DDS files. Find out what format the DDS is. Edit the files to your liking. Then extract the TEX again using the Gibbed tools. Then copy the header from the extracted files to the edited DDS files, replacing the DDS header. Then repack the TEX.
It's a bit tedious and not always guaranteed to work as easy mistakes tend to happen.
I'd help if I could, but I'm a serious novice when it comes to coding.
Just a shot in the dark, but I wonder if the strange vertex data in the zombies has anything to do with how they can be sliced up with bladed weapons.

Well, you've had far more success with this than anyone else I know. Heh. So if anyone can grant the ability to port completely custom models, it's you.
I'm sure a lot of people would kill to port some of the old Dead Rising characters to DR2.

Is it only character modding you're working on? Because I'd think weapons would be just as, if not more important thing to mod.
