What I don't understand about this whole Frank West Issue.

One issue I'm really don't understand is the controversy about Frank West's voice or even himself, as a whole, in this game.

First of all, even if the original actor (T.J.Rotolo) for Frank doesn't come back, couldn't we just mod the game and extract both the sound (battle sounds) and texture (old face) files from both Dead Rising 2: Off The Record and the upcoming Dead Rising 1 PC Port? (Failing that, the Wii version could be used instead of the PC Port in case some conversion issues happen.) Why are we, as a community, are complaining of such a small issue when we, as modders, could "fix" it ourselves? What's the huge controversy about Frank as a whole?

Besides, even with the controversy going on, I'm pretty sure Capcom isn't going to change their minds over a petition here. (This is the 21th century here, where nothing short of a boycott will convince Game developers/publishers to change their tactics. But, clearly, no person with a reasonable sense of logic will boycott a video game over a voice actor change. They, as a whole, are going to boycott a game if they see it sucks and isn't worth their 50 hard-earned dollars. But, even if all the hardcore fans boycott this game, there is nothing stopping the mainstream from buying this game. So, either way, we fans are going to lose the argument. (If we say nothing, Capcom wins. If we start riots against Gamestop/Capcom and send death threats, we get arrested, convicted, and we still lose.)

But, then again, I probably expected this from a mile away anyway. I already knew the game devs (everywhere , not only Capcom) lie, I mean as by words of Jeffery_CV: "Overpromise and under deliver" (Thought I don't really see how NOT contacting the original actor to do the role is anything other than lying here. It would make sense if T.J. had some problems, like a death of a loved one, in the first place. But, by not even contacting him and replacing him with a new actor while at the same time saying he's FRANK WEST is like saying if (religion alert) Moses was Mussolini, Jesus was <3, and Muhammad was Hirohito. It doesn't make any sense at all.) Anyway, even if the whole Frank West issue put aside, we would still have more issues to comply with like the lack of a timer (I don't mind it. However, it would be a good option if you put a secondary option like Dead Rising 2: Off The Record (Sandbox) and Dead Rising 3 (Story) and have a primary option with the actual timer involved (DR2:OTR has Story and DR3 has Nightmare).), combo weapons (I don't mind this either. Personally, if people hate this concept, it's probably due to the fact that they, as fans, are TOO HARDCORE and/or think that the combo weapons are too unrealistic. (Spiked bat makes sense, Boom Hammer (Grenade and Sledge Hammer), not so much), and low fps (This, to me and others, is a HUGE ISSUE to needs to be fixed...)

Edit: I apologize for going a bit off track on this one. (I'm not exactly pissed off or even feeling anything really.) However, my point still stands for each and every paragraph provided.

I agree that the voice change is the least of the problems, and the absence of any form of tension that DR3 had and DR4 will most likely continue is the big one. But it is a sign that the effort just isn't there. "Frank's back!" they announce like that's a big fat band-aid to make people happy. But what's the good in bringing back a character like it's a huge favor if everything about them is different anyway?

Photography's back and I like that, that on its own will at least make the co-op entertaining and probably the one thing I'm still looking forward to, and if Frank's the only photographer on Earth then that's fine. But, just seems like deciding to call it Frank is a cheap ploy for approval. "people like Frank West" they think, "call it Frank and we got instant gravy"

(Note: It's truly nice to see JDS from "T.J.Rotolo IS Frank West" thread. In addition, my thoughts said here come from a very cynical viewpoint due to seeing many of my favorite companies, including Capcom, fall down from Greed and Lies. While, you (JDS) have a very different viewpoint, it's nice to see a viewpoint that ISN'T completely stupid/nonsensical and that has many valid points as well.)

(And how is this not a solution here? To me, this makes perfect sense. Just disable the cutscenes and add the new voices in. What's the problem with that? Assuming that this game is going to have a story akin to Dead Rising 3, there is really nothing to miss storywise.)

"Not buying a game from a selfish company that's ignoring/lying to their fans and completely changing the main character of a game while celebrating its tenth anniversary would be a lot more than just "over a voice actor change". I'm not buying it unless they make changes.

(Wait, you're not buying a game just because it's being morally unethical to its fanbase? Personally, I get it, the fans here have many reasons to get pissed off at Capcom, But, at the same time, you have to realize that Capcom is a business, not a place for fanboys/girls to hang out in. (And Dead Rising is a product for them to make money off of, not a product that is worth more than it actually is. It's like spending a million dollars endorsing/advertising on a product when it only gives you ten thousand dollars. That's a surefire way to go bankrupt.) Sometimes, companies have to go "selfish" in order to earn the bigger buck (more money) here. Pandering to the fans is a way to make sure you get a secure but constant amount of money coming in to support yourself. However, focusing more on the mainstream, while more risker, can earn more than ten times what the fans give you. (And sometimes, even pandering to the mainstream still gives you fans.)

(In addition, what if there's another reason of why Capcom never CONTACTED Terrance Rotolo about doing the voice, of Frank, in Dead Rising 4. As much as this offends me as well as everyone else, what if Capcom was afraid of contacting Rotolo due to money issues? Maybe, outside of the public press, there was fear of the company thinking that Rotolo would charge TOO MUCH MONEY on the basis/thought that Dead Rising depended on Rotolo to survive? Maybe, it's the fact that they wanted to bring in a "famous" actor to play Frank West in order to gain more fans and, as a result, gain more money for the game. Lastly, perhaps the voice actor shown was/is just a placeholder! (Remember, the Frank West of 2005 (Xbox Summit/TGS) had a COMPLETELY different actor than the actor of the Frank West of 2006 (Pre-E3/E3/Retail).

(Help with what exactly? Just because you send a petition doesn't mean Capcom (or hell, anyone) is required to listen here. That's like saying that you send a petition to the North Korean Dictator telling him to be nicer. In the best, he will ignore you. In the Worst, he will EXECUTE you. Besides, Stipo and SWEGTA already responded to your petition by saying that a petition ALONE doesn't change anything. Just because Capcom loses 530 fans (to be exact) doesn't mean jack shit to them. Remember, they had MILLIONS within BILLIONS of mainstream gamers willing to buy this game! What point are you proving by saying that Capcom loses 530 fans here? It's just like politics here, if you lose a few things to make up for something big no matter of how your goals change, you still want to do it. That's what Capcom really is here. They used to respond to you but in the hindsight of the 21th century, they really don't give a shit when they can milk their franchises and get BILLIONS OF DOLLARS instead of listening to ONE FAN and getting 50 DOLLARS! (See the difference here? Please, do the math before you embarrass yourself further.)
