A long shot but I need help.
Earlier I was chatting with a new buyer of OTR and they have had a persistent problem of the game failing to save.
To elaborate, the game saves data here normally:
Documents\My Games\Dead Rising 2 Off The Record\rendersettings.ini
Documents\My Games\Dead Rising 2 Off The Record\saves\DCOPTNS.DOF.tmp
Documents\My Games\Dead Rising 2 Off The Record\saves\DCPHOTO.DPF.tmp
Documents\My Games\Dead Rising 2 Off The Record\saves\DCSAV01.DSF.tmp
Documents\My Games\Dead Rising 2 Off The Record\saves\DCSAV02.DSF.tmp
Documents\My Games\Dead Rising 2 Off The Record\saves\DCSAV03.DSF.tmp
As it turns out, that user's game did not make the Dead Rising 2 Off The Record folder at all!
Whenever he tried to save, the game would tell him that the save is corrupted.
I don't have this problem, but I've owned the game since September 2014. My game also saves things properly and promptly. I even have my old GFWL saves still.
We've done a tiny bit of investigating but didn't get too far.
One thing we did try is to make the folder(s) manually and that didn't work.
We tried to have him load my saves by simply copying mine in there and it didn't work. However, the game did recognize the saves as corrupted and to delete them at startup instead of the save files being blank. Also gave him the option to import the saves from GFWL.
We also tried to copy them to the Steam cloud save directory which also failed.
Bear in mind that before we chatted, that user has tried several things such as:
- Disabling cloud and deleting the cloud saves
- Checking the Game's cache
- Running the game as an admin
- Re-installing the game
- Unspecified CMD stuff
...etc.
So yeah I need your help in finding out WHAT and WHERE in the game handles where save data is saved and loaded because I think Capcom Vancouver may have made a typo somewhere that's screwing over a lot of new users. I'm also trying to investigate this without damaging my save data.
That user uses Windows 7 as on OS while I have Windows 8.1.
