I had a quick look into this and I might be able to figure out how to do it for 4:3. No promise, though, as it's a damn lot of text and I don't exactly know what he changed. We'll see.

I just read it myself, but you're welcome. I also just used windows editor and changed every line individually. Only thing is the editor lagging quite badly when you highlight a number and replace it instead of just deleting it and setting a new one. I suppose it's due to the large filesize of the .txt.

Ingame press the "Print" button on your keyboard. Then open MSPaint and paste it. It should paste the screenshot (plus your desktop if you use multiple displays). Edit as wished and save the file.

Okay, so now we know how to convert them to dds but can we reconvert them? Otherwise there's still no possibility to reskin/retex, or is there?

I think most editors either run out of leisure time and move on or feel little appreciation for what they do (see Dread's poll). Problem is many people look at the threads and download (see the views), but few actually register and say "well done" or "thank you". Of course the mods aren't done solely for a pat on the shoulder, but if people acknowledge your work it always feels better. On the other hand I wouldn't want this board to require registration before seeing links and everything, as this is the most annoying thing on most websites to me.
I might try to post/edit more in the Wiki, though I prefer this board.
As for the texture stuff, I'm still quite the newcomer and apart from the obvious things like editing the .txt files and swapping some sounds (those that work anyway), I have not really any idea what you can do. I'll keep my eyes open though.
Also, I think more YouTube Videos showing off some of the cool mods would help. I occasionally drop the forum's link on the Steam forums of Dead Rising 2 when people ask for mods (this is how I found this site, too). Other than that, I don't know.

That's useful information. Also, keep in mind that weapons like the PowerGuitar and the Hacker that use percentual ammo displays need their "SpraySupply" line changed, which is the actual ammo they carry. In their case, durability is only affected when the weapon itself takes damage (such as dropping it and then shooting it). The SpraySupply has a maximum of 65535 (as it's binary, not integer/long). I used that on the PowerGuitar and now Chuck is rocking the shit out of zombies everywhere. See this thread for more information: deadrising2mods.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=dr2other&action=display&thread=375

I think he rather meant the command / script in the game files to add a follow icon to make survivors accessible with Use (E).

Just a suggestion, but shouldn't the icons be stored in some game files? Should be possible to detect them and replace them with empty but transparent images, shouldn't it?

They seem to be renamed .wav files. Some of the .sfx point to certain .wav files that are named like the .adw files so I guess it's just some other codec to make it run smoothly on Xbox or to encrypt them in some sort of way. They can be played with Media Player Classic or VLC nonetheless.

Okay, so I gave it another go and changed the values of pitch in the bigfile.xml, which didn't help.
I then replaced a single .adw with another one of exact the same size and the other sounds remained intact. So I suppose the filesize is noted somewhere or the total size of the .big is somewhat important.
UPDATE:
Well, you can open .sfx with the editor and it does nothing more but to show up some paths linked to sounds that are to be played. Strangely these paths don't even exist, so I wonder if the files e.g. in fx_main.big actually have any use. It looks like this: //Version=1.0 cSoundEffect NA { MixerCategory = "SubSFX" PlaybackMode = "1" cSfxTrack FireBurble1 { Path = "C:\bcg\deadrising\audio\sfxSamples\Fire" Sample = "FireBurble1.wav" Volume = "0" }
Some of them link to a folder named 16bit_48kHz so that might explain why the game crashes with another sound output. Yet I don't know if these links do anything or not. I might fuzz around with that later on but right now I'm too fed up with it to bother.

As for the swapping, it worked for me, see the Rebecca thread. What I did was basically just list all the .adw files and then renamed them one by one so they fitted in the Chuck sound file. I re-used what few sounds were available, like "light effort" for the battle grunts and so on, which resulted in almost all sounds replaced with female ones, except for the breaking weapons notation and the vomitting. I only looked in the fx_main.big but I think it held all the sounds that are played by Chuck except for the cutscenes of course. But good to know that VLC can play them, maybe now I'm able to find out which sounds are played when building weapons, etc. Btw, did you delete my thread asking what .adw does? Sorry for being blind not seeing that this was posted here already but I was kinda tired. //Update: Apparently the Media Player Classic can also play .adw, which might be the more comfortable choice to some as it's only 3MB and doesn't require installation. //Update2: I seem to have found the sounds for weapon breaking, which would be 25797.adw and 25798.adw found in chuck.big in data/audio. Seems like there's also the sounds for changing dresses and stuff. I'll try to replace them with void files the make the sounds all female, see if it works. //Yet another update: I now found the Rebecca sound files, they are located in charvocals.big running under numbers 287xx. //I extracted all notable Rebecca sounds and renamed then accordingly. I will now try to replace all Chuck sounds, which seems doable now. I also uploaded the vocals in case anyone needs female sounds to mess with: rapidshare.com/files/440246950/Rebecca_Vocals.zipUPDATE: Okay, I replaced all the sounds in the chuck.big and came across the same problem. Now all the sounds are simply muted and I don't know what causes this. The new .big is significantly smaller, maybe the game does a check on that. Still, if you only alter files in the fx_main.big you can replace the battlegrunts. As for the rest, I'll see into it though I don't know why it won't work.

So, when I messed around with the Rebecca sounds I came across these file formats. From the looks and the results I got, .adw seem to be the main sound files whereas the .sfx (though implying they were, as for SoundFX) seem to control the playing of .adw, e.g. choosing if the grunt 1, 2 or 3 is played. But since I can't open the files, I can't know for sure and as I want to delve deeper into that, e.g. removing some sound files so we can have an all female sound pack, excluding the cutscenes of course, I was wondering if anyone around here knows of a tool that can open any of these files. My quick search on Google didn't turn up much, but in case I oversaw an obvious option, I apologize. Category name Sound

Hey unknowname1, I uploaded the fx_main.big here: rapidshare.com/files/440139129/fx_main.bigSounds I couldn't change because I couldn't find the files are the vomitting, the "Ah" when a weapon breaks and of course the comments on selfmade weapons. Might find some other solutions there unless I find out which files indicates which sounds. Sorry, I know rapid kinda sucks, but the other uploads didn't work, god knows why. Unpack the streamedassets.big and replace the fx_main.big, repack and change the streamedassets.big in your data folder. As for ruoivas, if you have the Steam version, maybe uncheck the auto-updating might help. Otherwise, did you reload a save where Chuck was in his default clothes? I also have Win7 and Steam and don't experience any problem of any sort.

By the way, Wizard? In your initial post you link to a Youtube video which then links to an updated one where you use survivor sounds for Rebecca. But when I enabled the mod the default sounds where played, making her grunting like Chuck. What happened to the other sounds? Were they intentionally not included or did I miss out on something? //Update: I now searched for the sounds myself and was able to extract and apply them. Only thing I can't fix is the "Ah" when a weapon breaks, as I couldn't find any file that would hint on being that one. Anyways, if anyone requests it I will upload the file that contains the original Rebecca sounds. Sometimes sounds don't seem to play, like some swing sounds, but in that case the PC is just mute, so that's an acceptable tradeoff, I think.

Did you change clothes while using the Rebecca model? Because that's about what happened when I started a whole new game, Rebecca was wearing skirt/heels and jeans/boots. Do you mean his standard shoes, which would be boots, or simply a pair of sneakers you wore before? Saving an all default Chuck with the vanilla files and then replacing them with the Rebecca files worked for me.

Um, I guess shame on me. In my usual style of fast reading and relying on my experience with computers and modding in general I simply overread the quite important part "Drag 'n Drop". I was just clicking on the DOS box expecting a dialogue box to ask me about (un)packing. Now everything works fine, thank you. I understand the conversion only works when Chuck is wearing his default clothes overall, thus when reloading a game where he was dressed I got some texture glitches. When starting a whole new game, all TIR drivers were Rebecca wearing a white hat (which actually looks pretty nice), only thing was that the model was wearing both jeans/boots and skirt/heels, which looked a little odd. Is that common? Because afaik when you first control Chuck he is in his default clothes, no? I then changed the files with my backups, loaded an older file, defaulted him, saved, changed again and loaded and voilá, works perfectly fine now. Apart from a few minor things like partial blinking with eyes open and the feet being partly in the floor, the hairy arm when looking at the watch and the weird to hilarious cutscenes now, where a booby Rebecca Chang talks in a deep manly voice and is upset when she herself reports in TV that Chuck freed all the zombies ( ;D ), everything's really nice, thank you very much. Question before I start trying, though: Does that work in Coop, too? Theoretically, it should, since the models are shown on the client, I guess. But you never know if Gfwl decides to restrict things. Any experiences on that yet? If not, I'll report back in a couple of days. I appreciate what you and others are doing here and encourage you to keep it up as long as your leisure time allows it. Such sites are the reason why PC gaming will always be better than console gaming, in my opinion. I'll definitely keep an eye on this site and tell my buddies who own this game, too. Thanks again and happy new year.

Hi there. I just found this forum today and really like what you're doing here. Improving DR2 to maximum extend. I tried to do as asked to replace Chuck with the Rebecca model up until the point where I'm supposed to execute Gibbed.DeadRising2.Unpack.exe. First time it told me to install .NET Framework 4.x, and I did. When I click it now, just the DOSbox pops up, blank, then closes again and nothing happens. When I try to use other tools to open the .big files, they all fail me. So I was wondering if anyone else experienced that problem and may suggest how to fix it, because obviously I'd need it for most things here. I'm running Windows 7 32bit. Tried executing it as admin, compatibility stuff, etc. So I'm out of guesses for now. Hope someone can help me. Greetings
