Thanks for that Tab.
I'm still contemplating what I want to do or how much effort I want to sink into it. It looks to be no small task to really dig into files with a hex editor, so the effort is appreciated.
I was wondering if different characters heads would clip as badly in the shoulder/neck/back area(or the head hair), or if it wouldn't be easier cleaner to just be able to switch between various characters as a whole, and a slew of what other choices / options I'd want to include.
I like to start with a goal, but I find myself tiring of the game itself(I don't work in the winter so I play games obsessively), and may not go anywhere with it.
I'll have to put it on hold until after the holidays as well.
Hope you all enjoy yours!

I was wondering if anyone has gotten the game to run at custom resolutions, of if they're hardwired into the engine?
I'm currently playing at 800x600(still looks pretty amazing, oddly enough, and it's the only way I can get it to play smoothly), but on a widescreen monitor, and have to change the TV settings so it doesn't stretch side to side.
Ideally I would like to run 960 x 600.
I tried changing the .ini over in My Documents/games etc. Didn't work, but did screw up my game some, didn't have to change TV settings to 4:3 before...
I'm also interested in changing the FOV, if anyone could point that out to me that'd be great. How does that affect side aim of things like the M-16?

The files you linked host tons of textures.
You're going to have to be specific about the file you're talking about, maybe upload it somewhere, along with the other two(if there are) similarly named varients (IE 1. nm 2. cm and 3. mask)
So far as I've seen, mask is the texture, the other two are bump and highlight(area's affected by in game lighting) maps.
A note on 3d rendering:
__________________________
Normals and Bump maps and Textures.
I forget what the actual file names of these are, but here's how they work.
Texture Straight up what you see. 2d jpeg wrapped around a 3D shape.
Certain other items though, things that apear shiny, or wrinkled or scratched, are effects gleaned from the other maps.
Now, I'll touch on the 3d model itself. It usually has a color, generally white.
I'm not sure about this game, but that color can change. If I were to make, say, a brown bowling ball, uniform in actual color, it would be easier to do it without texture, just change the color of the 3d model itself. Then the other maps provide the little details, shine and scratches. If you want to make 34 different colored bowling balls, you could do so with minimal coding and information by simply changing the color on each model itself, and not messing with 34 different textures, and use 1 simple jpeg for the holes.
That is how the textures are for much of the Spartan armor in Halo games. The texture doesn't change, there isn't really one. The effect layers don't change so much, it's just the underlying color that changes.
_______________________________________
I'm not sure what either of you are talking about by "duplicating the layer", however. If by that you mean a simple copy and paste in whatever editing program you're using, that's simply not going to work. A majority of bump map type files are not transparencies but shades of black and white, and layering them will do nothing.

www.openoffice.org/I needed something that can replace with wildcards, Microsoft Word does this, but I don't have that, and Open Office Open document Click View Open Find & replace Click More options Click regular expressions We'll work with what I know from here on out, the period key is the wildcard for this example(though if you search on google, they've got really complicated ways to search). Amount0 = "148" Amount1 = "37" Amount2 = "3" In the Find, put: Amount0 = "..." Will find every Triple digit Amount0 value. I replaced all of my spawns to single digits this way, because my computer is slow. It's rather quick, and will give you a report window if you hit "replace all" IE [Performed action 789 times) Takes seconds. Doing something like that with note pad, even if it had wildcards(which it doesn't) would take ages. Be sure when saving to save with the left hand option(something about changing format, which is useless in .txt files). _______________________________________________________ For normal simple editing and search/replace I would suggest: www.editpadlite.com/IT's search and replace is mega fast as well(may have to double click the button to do replace all in the search window((seen on the bottom of the preview picture)). The search window is handy because it will stay up on the document after you open it. In that you can copy enter lines and tabs. I stumbled onto that one for something to re-format text files for e-books.(new paragraphs and such) ____________________________________ Both do their jobs well and fast, making them ten times more efficient than notepad.

In theory you could just edit zombiesets.txt cZombieLoadSetEntry e1 { start = "291600" //Day 4 at 9:0 end = "388800" //Day 5 at 12:0 type0 = "zombie_skinny" // 2200 type1 = "zombie_fat" // 6176 type2 = "zombie_fat_female" // 4828 type3 = "zombie_cop" // 1788 type4 = "zombie_showgirl" // 988 type5 = "zombie_dealer" // 684 type6 = "zombie_gas" // 1388 number = "7" total_cost = "18052" total_vert = "12859" }
and change all the types to "zombie_gas" and do that for every file (tip: use replace in notepad or something ) This would however, replace every zombie with a gas_zombie no matter the progress EDIT: Most entries even say start = "162000" //Day 2 at 21:0 end = "259200" //Day 4 at 0:0 So if you have loads of time on your hands, you could indeed replace every zombie to the spitter variant end-game I actually did this, replaced all fat zombies with skinny, so as to hopefully use less resources. It was all the further I dared take it because I haven't played the story through yet and didn't want to really break it.(IE any missions where you have to kill X of a zombie type or whatever) Note: I don't think you can change zombie types to types that are not natrually present. I tried putting showgirls in the main menu and other various places, as well as cocktail dresses, and nothing, still guy zombies, even in some of the zones that felt like they should be(the first casine you go through in the game, only saw dealers as "special" zombies). You can also edit the max number of zombies that will follow you(several entries for this), I put mine to 0(usually 1-5) but you could crank it up to 20. I set max number of updating zombies to 20 instead of 100 as well. I also edited the entries that will spawn X zombies if totals drop below Y. Y is usually really high, I put it down to like 3, instead of 400(Their limits for different zones go from 110-1700) I tend to go overboard when editing things of that nature, obviously. Open Office has a good search and replace feature, makes changing things like that a snap.(I tried about 10 programs yesterday, but it has a wildcard search, so you can replace variable #'s easily. Going to make a post in Tools section maybe.) (I also reduced the #'s by grand amounts, because my computer sucks(well the video card does, the rest is actually pretty beefy). Anyhow, if one wanted to make it really hard, you could do that. There is a 10x Zombies thread somewhere as well.

Looks like awesome work. I found a Twins nude model on another site: (Obviously NSFW) actualgameplay.com/tag/dead-rising-2-nude-patch/I was wondering if you could whip up a short guide on how you did what you did(IE outfits), because after I get rolling and I finish lining up my computer(and get more familiar with the game), I'd like to do a similar all over patch using the nude or something similar as a base. Another interesting note, the nude I found has whole .tex files. It's an all inclusive tex replacement(I drug out the dds files and was playing with the makeup on one, I just love red lips and dark eye liner). Will be posting that in the relevant thread as well, actually, I see it made the 6 page nude request thread(the one with all the arguing, heh).
