I'm trying to make a small change to a texture. I've followed all the instructions but in game the texture is just a bunch of multi-colored squares. I used "The Gimp", a free photo editing program, to alter the dds file and I noticed that while the original file is 107kbs the edited one is 1MB. Is that why the texture looks the way it does in game? is there a free photo editing program that works for Re-skining?

I tried using GIMP but I noticed that it doesn't give you very many options to save so that it won't work (at least I don't know how). I use paint.net, free and it lets you save in many options and even tells you what the file size will be before you save.

I tried paint.net and it worked. Thanks for the help.
to recap for anyone else that has these problems;
If the texture is a bunch of multi-colored squares, use a different image editing program (paint.net)
If the texture is pure black, you need to edit the header of the file correctly.
