So I've started modding OTR today, like I planned too. So far, I've noticed that Gibb's .BIG tool does seem to work, but OTR's engine is more picky then original DR2. You know how you use to be able to take out the NPCs.big, and dR2 would still boot up just have a bunch of "Missing Prop" boxs everywhere? Well in OTR, it just crashes the game when it trys to load a file, and it can't find it. I also tried to have an extracted folder with all the files in it, it ignored it, didn't load them. (Just like DR2) Also, when it comes to new item spawns, in the safe house I tried to spawn a Katana just for testing sake, and now it DOES matter where in the Safehouse.TXT that you put the sword. If you put it on the top like most did in Dr2, everything below that, doesn't spawn anymore So you have to put it on the bottom of the TXT I'm about to do further testing, for I haven't had a custom item spawn to actually appear yet..

UPDATE: So I figured out how to do model swaps directly in the Npcs.BIG Basically while DR2 OTR will crash if it trys to load a file that is missing, if the file is there but empty (0KB) it will load it and won't crash So in the Npcs.big, I made everything of Default Franks, expect his default chest, 0KB. Now I just put the model I want over chuck by renaming it to default_chest_frank.BIG I did this for Boss Chuck, and released it: deadrising2mods.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=dr2otcmodelreleases&action=display&thread=927&page=1

for the item spawning, in some cases this was the same in DR2, if the location was wierd, if the game didn't like the rotation, or if the entry itself wasn't entered correctly it would do the exact same thing. Try checking the entry and moving/rotating it a little bit.
Also I hope with what we found in items we will be able to do model swaps from items.txt. I found a possible way looking at the file you gave me, so I will try it out when I get it.

Yeah I hope we can too, I'm just releasing model swaps for now as it's the only way I personally know how to do it, for the moment.

Glad to hear the Gibbed tools will still work.
Have you tried re-mapping anything yet? And for curiosity, does OTR work if you take a modded character file for a survivor, eg Elrod from DR2 and copy/paste the file into OTR (same character)... wondering if the geometry files are identical, a modded char should still work in OTR... and if not, maybe the maps will work provided they're the same size. (I'm going to go straight for this when I get my copy).
Yeah how did you get this so soon? I want to buy it on PC DVD but can't even find a retailer yet (xBox and PS3 are everywhere though...)

Buy the full game you pirates...this is why they only are making 800,000 copies

most people pirate to play the game sooner (hence playing it a day earlier) or as a demo. Currently I haven't seen enough to justify a full priced purchase... Also its well known that Used Game Sales hurt the market more than pirating, and I'm pretty sure they only made 800,000 because they new there weren't going to be a huge rush for it since its just basically a Director's Cut. They'll make more as time goes on.

Well here it is Oct. 11 in North America and nobody's got the PC version available. This includes online or in-store retail. Any of the PC gaming stores (GameStop, EB Games, BestBuy, FutureShop) I've been into cannot even find the SKU number in their systems, which isn't a good sign. On one hand I would suspect by this that the PC version is being canned since it's not ready today- but on the other hand, there are torrents, UK ebayers, and overseas companies who claim to be selling it (maybe they're clones of betas, who knows). Even on Capcom's site, they have it marked as "backordered" and the digital download link is botched- nothing on the page at all. It's kind of frustrating because I want to buy it legitimately on PC-DVD as it will give me hours of fun modding it, let alone play it- plus it's only $40, which any fully-integrated working person can reasonably afford. CAPCOM is pissing me off by hyping it and not delivering... and even moreso because I recall working for a games development company and remembering who is to blame when sh!t like this happens... and it's NOT the actual developers themselves not getting the work completed on time... OK Rant over. Want the PC version now.

I'm in Canada. Amazon.ca doesn't have it, and Amazon.com won't ship software cross-border.
Also I found it on Direct2Drive but it's download only. As I said, if I'm paying cash for it, I'd rather own the PC DVD.
I'll keep looking, but thanks for the suggestions, guys.
