Hm, perhaps this is the perfect place for me to ask.
I've very much interested in modding Dead Rising 2 myself now and I wonder what exactly Can, and what we Cannot do.
When I say Can, I mean major things. Would it technically be possible to make like your own completely new Mission with brand new survivors with its own name and dialog? If so, that'd be really great.

You are only limited by your determination you can do a lot of stuff and all the things you mentioned are possible. Things you will need are gibbed tools, hex editor and the files you will be looking at will be missions.txt from datafile.big found in DR2 Main Directory\data folder and str_en.bcs found in DR2 Main Directory\Data\Frontend. str_en.bcs contains all the text found in game you will need to read the tutorial on the wiki to take full advantage of inserting your own text if your dialogue is longer than the dialogue you are replacing. One of the major things you can't do are import new models into the game. So you are limited to creating things with all the stuff currently found in the game. I guess another thing that we can't do yet is put all clothes into the locker.

I Do have another question now that I think of it. Can we for example take a Survivor, make a duplicate of it, retexture it and make it a new survivor without replacing the original?

there's no way of adding models to the game yet... you can do all that WITH replacing... or say make multiple entries of the same survivor.... but not adding models
*EDIT* thinking about it... you could probably make a survivor and replace it with some article of clothing you never use, or a model that isn't even used in the game... aka. The Mechanic.

They'll just look the same as another survivor unless you make them look like what you said give them a model that isn't usually used

oh, I meant you could reskin a survivor and swap the reskin over an unused model.... then all you have to do is create a new survivor item in items.txt (copy and paste from a different one) and change AssetFilename to whatever model you swapped
