WIZARDS COMMENTSWizard pointed out on MSN Instant Messaging:
On the black command box while Npcs.BIG is extracting
"Warning: this archive contains XBox compressed data which won't be uncompressed"
QuickBMS does not work on any compressed files anywhere.
The environment trick does not work on any compressed files anywhere.
The compressed big files are completely different:
These is 1 of 2 things going on here:
1. Gibbed tools aren't extract the files right 2. The 360 files are encrypted (special compression) and will require a whole new set of tools to extract them properly. MADS COMMENTS Mad says that only the NPCS.big files do not work, the other files, streamedassets, environment files do.
he also says:
the datafile folder isn't corrupted; it's filled to the brim with xbox code.
same with npcs.big possibly. which is why it crashes.
same with streamedassets.big Crashing filesCannot be unpacked (gibbeds crashes):
Many (all?) npcs.big files.
CaseZero\data\models\environment\prologue\prologue_z01_big:
z01_ash_tree.big\_COMP_z01_ash_tree.big (But tex file opens fine)
z01_road_bridge.big\_COMP_z01_road_bridge.big (But tex file opens fine)
Hex editor pictures, showing how the case zero text files are starkly different from the dead rising 2 text files: Capcom\Dead Rising 2\data\models\environment\americana_casino\americana_casino_z03.big\z03_sec_details01.tex\americana_star_metal_cm:

Granted these are two different kind of files, but note how there is all those zeros at the top of the Dead Rising 2 file? 00 01 01 E0 80 00 80 00 08 23 06 04 60 51 26 20 18 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 80 00 00 00 00 20 00 00 00 00 00 80 00 00 00 00 80 20 00 00 00 08 00 00 00 00 00 80 00 00 00 00 80 28 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 00 00 80 00 00 00 00 80 2A 00 00 80 00 00 00 00 00 00 80 00 00 00 00 00 2B 00 00 20 00 00 00 00 00 00 80 00 00 00 00 20 2B 00 00 08 00 00 00 00 00 00 80 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 That is the header that should be replaced, which we replace to change these files into dds files to edit. There is no header like that a top any of the case zero files i found. in this case zero file there are no row of zeros: 00 00 10 30 00 00 80 00 00 00 01 B0 FF 10 30 01 A6 01 10 01 03 00 00 04 00 45 33 00 50 0F 40 C8 44 25 4E 65 18 44 24 3A 27 18 8C 5A 2F 35 0A 45 B6 DC B7 62 08 B0 72 E9 D9 F6 27 C4 8B 0A BC 11 D4 68 64 5A 53 85 50 85 B0 C2 99 48 BC 0B 33 16 82 06 EA A1 F9 8B A2 6A 5B 40 F8 00 00 8C 01 80
GAME TEXTThe case zero game text file strangely has all of the dead rising 2 text in it. It is already known that the dead rising 2 game text file already had the case zero text in it. CINEMATICSIt appears like all of the case zero data\cinematics\cinematics.big txt files work. this means we can go in and look at all of the case zero cutscenes. I have learned a lot from doing this in dead rising 2.

As pointed out by anno, all other text files appear fine but only the datafile's text is strangely coded. Yet the environment is not encoded; so theoretically it could still work. I've seen alot of files outside of the datafile.big that were all messed up. I'm really starting to think that alot of these files have a special encyption on them (Alot of xbox360 files/games do this) For example, I know a guy who was able to extract PS3 and PC Resident evil 5 Arc's, but he could never manage to do xbox360's due to it's special encryption made it to hard to deal with. We may have very well ran into the same issue here. I'm sorry to say this but unless we can find some super-duper awesome tool maker there is no way we will be able to do a full convert of the files over. The main thing we need is the environment.. we can add the zombies, surv, and items ourselves.

that will be a VERY long list. But a necessary one which I would love to see Gibbed's has not posted here since October 17, 2010. I misspoke, it was actually someone else who was supposed to make the environmental quickbms script, chmorrex or something. But still hasn't done so. I don't know how eager he will be to do another project as he is busy with this one. I would bet you too motivate you to keep trying. But you need no motivation So betting you is bad for me, as you are already motivated and I simply have a chance of losing something I already have if I lost the bet. Happy post case zero obsession day If we can just get Gibbed to create a special set of archiver tools, we can still fix up npcs.big. I'll compile a list of what's broken later today. Wizard wrote: Anyways I have bad news about those case zero filesAfter research and talking to people, those files the dude upload are pretty useless BECAUSE they have a special xbox360 compression that has NEVER been cracked yet Alot more games have this problem, not just DR2
Sorry mad.

Sounds promising. So with this unpacked clothing files, how far is the community from being able to use the waitress uniform, bowling shirt, etc in dead rising 2?

The textures are still possibly messed up, so we'll need a header swap and KABOOM! CZ CLOTHING IN DR2! Wizard said the Creator of quick bms is working on this. He was working on an environment quick bms a few a weeks ago, and I dont know the status of this.

Okay, recompiling the previously non working files inside npcs.big works, so there is no sort of compression outside-file related. Can someone try swapping chest_young_chuck with chest_default in DR2 from my file link? that will give us some indication. I'm about too. Though I can bet money it'll just crash due to texture compression problems. I'm about too. Though I can bet money it'll just crash due to texture compression problems. Complete game crash upon loading. No surprise =P

you decripted evrything or are the mission and items files still garbled? to clarify: The community has been able to open all text files, they are no longer garbled. The skins still remain a mystery, and impossible to port, and will always remain a mystery and impossible to port from everything I have heard and read. Just yesterday when trying to open the dead rising 1 file, I found this, by an extremely highly respected modder, who has the same level respect and awe of gibbed's here in his own modding community: Can't rip from Xbox 360, and the Wii version is bad looking. It's also extremely difficult and not worth it to make it a model and just plop it in as a prop. Might as well remap it. and from the founder of this forum: Wizard wrote: Anyways I have bad news about those case zero filesAfter research and talking to people, those files the dude upload are pretty useless BECAUSE they have a special xbox360 compression that has NEVER been cracked yet Alot more games have this problem, not just DR2 I can see how some of these posts if someone was not following the discussion closely could be interpreted the wrong way. Again, although the community was able to unscramble the text files of case zero, which in and of itself is a great feat, the skins/textures continue to be impossible to port. Based on everything I have read and heard by extremely experienced modders, it is impossible to port skins and textures of any xbox 360 games. I would ultimately love the text files of Case West, but I am resigned to the fact that the skins/textures of any xbox 360 game will remain unable to be ported for years to come. I hope I am wrong.

gique13 here is the datafile.big file. From this post. Anno, GTFO with your hopelessness. I am working on it. Please don't shoot the messenger. There continues to be some statements here which are a little unclear, which are causing confusion: Again, I hope that I am wrong. But everything that I have read and been told shows that porting skins and textures from xbox 360 games is impossible. I have learned that modding consists of 20 attempts not working before one works. In this process I learn more about the game as a result of those failed attempts. Those failed attempts enrich the community and my own knowledge of how the game works in the long term. Thanks to your tenacity, stubbornness, and hard work we have the Case Zero text files. Everyone is grateful for that, and you can be proud of that accomplishment. Like the working Case zero truck, we are excited you pushed to have this built, but no one will think any less of you if you pursued this more later. Right now we also need your help in a variety of other areas which also relate to Case Zero. You could always move onto more easily completed challenges for now, promising to return to this unfinished challenge when the gaming world learns more. In building the Infinity Mode, I have had to comprimise on what I want to do again, and again and again. Or you can continue to pursue this. But modders like Wizard will continue to support your efforts, but point out the limits of the modding community's knowledge right now.

Okay. Yeah, I guess i can lend a hand when it comes to CZ. I'm working on CW right now, lol. Let me know how i can help. Thankfully infinity mode 1.0 will be done this week for sure, maybe as early as tomorrow, so the community can focus on CZ and other projects.

If it's a matter of skins and textures, not working, while the rest being useable, like models and environments, we could probably use a lot of the skins and textures from dr 2, to get cz working, I would be happy to contribute to creating new skins and textures

Attached is missions and items.txt located on the forum And the point of this is?... This project is long since dead. I sometimes can't access the items.txt and missions.txt dropbox files from certain computers. I was looking at the missions.txt today to create this: Missions#Dead_Rising_2:_Case_Zero_MissionsI find this information to be very helpful.

How's this mod coming along? I've been waiting since forever! I'd love to play it, much prefer a town than a casino.
