Download these tools if you don't have them:
WTV.exe (Woody's Texture Viewer)
quickbms.exe (coverts .tex files to .dds files)
UltraEdit (hex editor)
Gibbed tools (unpacks and repacks files)
They are all found in: rapidshare.com/files/424950035/TOOLS.rar (screenshot)
Also Photoshop with Nvidia plugin.

A folder called npcs_big is created
|1st: Unpack the file '''data/model/npcs.big''' with Gibbed tools|
Drag npcs.big onto unpack.
A black box will appear for a few minutes, when it disappears, npcs.big is unpacked.
2nd: Copy and save the .tex file you want to modify to another folder.
3rd: With Gibbed tools, unpack the .tex file of the model you want to reskin from the npcs_big folder (for example, chest_default.tex)
4th: Open quickbms.exe and find Dr2TextureConvert.bms
5th: In the second quickbms window select the .tex file you want to reskin.
6th: Then in the third quickbms window create a new folder and extract the files there
So now you should have:
1. a folder with the file you want to skin,
2. a folder with the unpacked files
3. a folder with quickbms converted dds files
7th: Open the dds files in Photoshop and modify the skin.
8th: Before you save the modified photoshop dds. Open Woody's Texture Viewer (WTV.EXE) and see if the original dds you are modifying is DX5 or DX1. At the bottom left of the Open Woody's Texture Viewer (WTV.EXE) it will have DX5 or DX1.
9th: Save the modified skin with the same DX5 or DX1 settings
10th: After saving the modified dds file, check the .dds filesize to see if it is the same and do that for every dds you skin because others are DX1 and others DX5)
11th: With UltraEdit open the modded dds and the same name/file from the unpacked unmodified dds folder you created with Gibbed tools. For example boots_mask.dds (modified) and boots_mask (unmodified).
Original file Copy and paste this header
Find the non modified dds header....
Modified file Paste the original header here.
Replace the modified header with the original header.
Do this step for all modified .dds files.
12th: Remove the .dds extension from the modified files, for example boots_mask.dds to boots_mask.
13th: Copy/replace the modified files into the folder you extracted with Gibbed tools. Again check the filesize to make sure they are the same size. If it is the half or double the size you saved the dds with the wrong DX5/DX1 settings
14th: With Gibbed tools pack the folder with the modified dds and fix the name of the file with the original, and change the extension from .big to .tex
Tip: If the skin looks more left or right inside the game you didn't copy & replace correct the header.
I miss the old good days when you simple retexture a bmp file & everything was simple and fast!!!
Here is a pic with the dds settings i use if it help & check the size of the modded dds with the original, if you have only few kb different it works but not if you have double or half size
These tools (Scripts) were made by Chrrox, I had nothing to do with the making of these tools, I'm just spreading them around
This scripts are powered by QuickBMS, which comes with the download here
That download has both of the BMS scripts, and QuickBMS itself.
The tool is very easy to use, just follow the on-screen instructions.
