Capcom Vancouver (formerly known as Blue Castle Games) has officially shut its doors, leaving hundreds out of a job and two future projects cancelled. Among those projects was Dead Rising 5. With the closure, the future of the franchise is currently a mystery. It is unknown whether Capcom will pick it up and develop it in-house like with the first game, or will they just scrap the entire series altogether? I really hope they go with the former, but to me, I think they should have just ended the series at Dead Rising 3. While the game wasn’t perfect by any means, it still retained the core formula of a Dead Rising game. It was a fairly good game, but I can see why most disagree with my opinion. Dead Rising 4, however, was the downfall of this studio. Dead Rising 4 did to Capcom Vancouver what Tomb Raider Chronicles did to Core Design, except the roles are reversed. While many hated TRC for not changing a thing with the gameplay, everyone hated DR4 for changing too much of the gameplay. TRC was the same old Tomb Raider game, while DR4 wasn’t a Dead Rising game. There will be a point where a game has to evolve, and we all understand that. But if you take away the familiarity and the uniqueness of it, then it’s not an evolution... it’s just straight up replacing. While Tomb Raider did evolve, it still looks and feels like a Tomb Raider game for a more modern generation. Dead Rising 4 promised to evolve while sticking true to the formula, only to create something completely generic. I hate to say it, but I hate Dead Rising as much as I love it. There’s just no room for evolution with this series. It’s a fun game, but there’s so little that can be done to keep it fresh for future installations while also evolving it. Dead Rising 3 got close, but even then the effort was futile according to some. So... should the series die with Capcom Vancouver? Yes. This should be the end for Dead Rising. It was a good run, but all good things must come to an end.

Personally, I don't think Dead Rising should end just yet. The series should get at least one more outing, this time developed by Capcom, like Dead Rising 1 was. It could be a combination of Dead Rising 1's great storytelling and Dead Rising 2's game mechanics, which were probably the best in the series, all built on the MT Framework engine. But hey, that's just my opinion.
Dead Rising isnt dead. Yet. But it is close. I just finished a 1 year contract with Ratio Group which had some of the DR4 work along with some other CV farmed out to them (I worked on other stuff mainly POS stuff not on DR4) but from what I got told by guys that did do contract work for DR4 Capcom is not happy with sales numbers and will be doing one more release 100% from Japan and if it bombs thats it
I ENDORSE NOTHING>>>>>>>BULLSHIT IS NOT A RELATIVE TERM
