All credit for this goes to Gibbed, however some people are having a lot of trouble doing this due to the lack of a step-by-step.
- First off, you're going to need to enable 'debug mode'. You can use this guide.
- Once debug mode is active, open a notepad file and paste in the following code:
OverrideRenderSettings="True" RenderFullScreen="False" size_window_x="1024" size_window_y="768"
- Save as 'master.ini' (be sure to save as 'all files' rather than .txt or this will not work.
- Place the new master.ini file in your Dead Rising 2 directory
- You will now have a windowed Dead Rising 2! the benefit to this rather than DXWnd is that you can still see your mouse cursor and interact with the in-game map and messages.
If you didn't notice, the size_window_x and y are your resolution. If you change the values and the game window however does not respond to this, open your game with the non-debugged application and change your resolution settings in-game. I hope this helped, any questions feel free to ask. - Jayce

modifying the deadrising.exe file replacing a 1 with a zero, then adding a user.ini text file to your deadrising 2 folder works just as well. Here is the downloadable deadrising.exe file with the changes. Here is my user.ini file: enable_dev_features="True" test_mode="True"size_window_x="1024" size_window_y="768" OverrideRenderSettings="True" RenderFullScreen="False"
RenderLocalPlayerPosition="False"
enable_quickie_debug_menu="True" enable_dev_only_debug_tiwwchnt="True" enable_debug_jump_menu="True" test_jumps_enabled="True"
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Save your old deadrising2.exe file
- download this deadrising2.exe file.
- move the new deadrising2.exe file to your dead rising 2 folder
- create a text document by right clicking on your desktop. In the context menu that pops up, click new >> text document
- Change the name to user.ini make sure it is actually a ini file not a text file. A text file will not work. Often an extension is hidden. If needed see: Vista: Show or Unhide File Extensions also How To UnHide File Extensions in XP or VISTA
- The new ini file will look like a text file with a small blue or orange sockett on it.

- Open the ini file. Copy and paste this into the ini file:
enable_dev_features="True" test_mode="True"size_window_x="1024" size_window_y="768" OverrideRenderSettings="True" RenderFullScreen="False"
RenderLocalPlayerPosition="False"
enable_quickie_debug_menu="True" enable_dev_only_debug_tiwwchnt="True" enable_debug_jump_menu="True" test_jumps_enabled="True"
- Move the ini file to your dead rising 2 folder
- start the game windowed
