Off the Record Sandbox Boss: Brock Mason

[importbox]

"Humanity... has proven itself to be quite adept at making mistakes. Hell, it's the only thing we truely excel at!"

From Dead Rising 1 comes Special Forces commander Brock Mason.

Download the character here: http://www.mediafire.com/?r9v1j5lkydoh0wc

Pack it into your npcs.big file by editing your npcs bigfile.xml and adding the appropriate lines to include it (or rename it and replace another character).

In your items.txt of your datafile, search for "cast_sullivan_boss" and make the following changes:

Code:
cNPCItem cast_sullivan_boss
{
    Age = "37"
    AssetFilename = "data/models/npcs/boss_brock"
    AudioChestFoleyType = "1"
    AudioLegFoleyType = "1"
    AudioShoeType = "2"
    AudioTauntInterval = "10"
    AudioTauntThreshold = "12"
    BossType = "14"
    CinematicScale = "1.05"
    CinematicSkeletonSlotName = "SkeletonCinematicPlayer"
    DamagePerMeleeAttack = "115"
    DisplayName = "50222"
    DR2 = "true"
    FootIKFootOffsetFromGround = "0.075"
    FootIKSurfaceHeightOffset = "0.01"
    FootIKToeAngleLimit = "-0.9"
    FootIKToeOffsetFromGround = "0.015"
    Genre = "0"
    HealthAmount = "10000"
    Height = "1.905"
    InteractDistance = "1.5"
    NPCAnimationChooser = "0"
    NPCType = "2"
    PickupOffset = "-0.0977, 0.8128, 0.9583"
    PortraitTextureName = "portrait_boykin.bct"
    ShowUpInNoteBook = "false"
    SkeletonSlotName = "SkeletonPlayer"
    Tier = "1"
    VoiceType = "4"
}

And in your missions.txt add this mission somewhere (that way you can fight him in sandbox mode).

Code:
cMissionDefinition B1_Day1_Sullivan
{
    CantFailOnLevel = "ROOFTOP_YUCATAN"
    Duration = "999999"
    MissionType = "1"
    Module = "2"
    StartTime = "25200"
    cMissionObjective TheFacts-Objective
    {
        cMissionObjectiveKillBoss Gunship2
        {
            BOSS_NAME = "Sullivan Gunship"
        }

    }

    cMissionLevelReady YucatanRoof4
    {
        LevelName = "LEVEL_ROOFTOP_YUCATAN"
        cMissionBossBattle Gunship8
        {
            BattleFile = "data/datafile/battle_gunship.txt"
            BattleName = "Sullivan Gunship"
        }
    }
}

(I'm new to mission editing, so if anyone has any pointers if someone adds something pretty cool, be sure to let me know)

Note: Because he has 10,000 health, he is extremely difficult to kill and YOU WILL NEED FREAKO'S YUCATAN ROOFTOP MOD

This also hasn't been tested with cutscenes, so I'm unsure if there'll be any major glitches.

I haven't beaten him yet, so I don't think he drops any money (seeing as he's just using left over data from DR2)

I'm not sure. I don't have DR2 installed.

Very very good work.

Although giving him that amount of health is just lame. You should really give him at most double the health of like... TK.

Yeah, I admit I went a little far with giving him 10,000 health (guess I felt like there should've been a more challenging boss in the game than some of the others). But anyone can change the amount of health he has, so it's up to other people whether they want him to be as tough as any other boss.

Is there instructions for this? Cause I think I know now how I would be able to add outfits. Been pondering on it for a while.

Simply open up Bigfile.xml using notepad or wordpad (or any word processing program) and just beneath the first two lines, you should see a list of all the models that'll be packed into the npcs.big.

Just add this to the top of the list.
Code:

boss_brock.big

boss_brock.tex

Then when you repack the npcs file, Brock will be packed with it.

weird, after I hit him a few times he throws me over his shoulder, and looses his "mass" and I punch and shoot through him, so I can't beat him..

Thanks for the help, I successfully added a NEW outfit!

But another trouble i'm having is whenever I try to edit a clothing texture it just shows up as black in game.

I've never had that happen. But then again, I never tried to use any weapons on him.

Likely you're not saving the textures in the correct format. Textures need to be saved in DXT1 dds format. I use TheCompressionator for my textures.

I tried out that program and my textured object still comes out black.

Try using the batch compress option in TheCompressionator.
After selecting your file, at the bottom you'll see some compression options.

These are the settings that I use when I save my textures in TheCompressionator.
Output file format: Direct Draw Surface.
Output format: DirectX Texture compression, then choose options next to it. In the options window, make sure no alpha and DXT1 is selected (only choose DXT5 if your texture has alpha transparency, like hair).
Mipmaps: Box-filter. And in the options just choose 1x1.
